About NearMeTips
NearMeTips helps homeowners across the United States understand what home-service work may cost — before they hire.
When your AC quits in July, your roof starts leaking, or your water heater dies, the first question is always the same: “What should this cost, and who can I trust to do it?” Most homeowners have no easy way to answer that. Contractors quote wildly different prices, and it’s hard to know what’s fair.
That’s why we built NearMeTips. We publish clear, honest, up-to-date cost guides for the home services people search for every day — HVAC, roofing, plumbing, and electrical work — so you can walk into any quote informed and confident.
What We Do
- Current cost ranges for repairs and replacements, by job type, size, and material.
- Repair-vs-replace guidance so you don’t overspend on a system that should be replaced (or replace one that just needs a fix).
- Local price guides for major U.S. cities, because costs vary by region.
- How to hire advice — what to ask, how to vet a contractor, and how to avoid common scams.
What We Don’t Do
We don’t sell home services and we’re not a contractor referral network with a stake in your decision. We’re an independent information site. Our goal is simply to help you make a smart, informed decision and pay a fair price.
How We Keep Our Information Accurate
We compare published market ranges with government labor data, regulator guidance, manufacturer documentation, and trade sources where they are relevant. Wage data helps explain regional labor pressure, but it is not the same as a contractor’s retail rate. Every guide shows an update date and links to its available sources. Read the full process in our Editorial Policy.
Who’s Behind NearMeTips
NearMeTips is published by the NearMeTips Editorial Team, an independent research and writing team focused on helping consumers evaluate prices, risks, and contractor claims. We are not a home-service company or a substitute for a licensed professional. When a guide receives review from a qualified trade professional, the article identifies that reviewer and their credentials; otherwise, it is clearly labeled as editorial research.
